After giving realistic movies like Gullal, Black Friday, Dev D, That girl in yellow boots and many more; Anurag Kashayp comes up with the much awaited Gangs of Wsseypur. The movie is basically about revenge which starts off when Shahid Khan (Jaideep Ahlawat) begins looting trains under the guise of the dacoit Sultana Daku. After this news is revealed in front of sultana, shahid is forced to leave the village which he does and finds a work in a coal mine to earn his living. But because of his ruthless master’s men Shahid is unable to leave the mine when he had to go to his wife who died at childbirth. Later shahid is hired by his master as his bodygaurd, the mine owner Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia). But later Shahid is being killed by someone on the orders of Ramadhir singh. Shahid’s friend, mentor Farhan (Piyush Mishra) takes shahid’s son safely out of the place.
The main story starts when Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee), son of Shahid Khan swears to take revenge of his father’s death from Ramadhir singh, the then minister of Wasseypur.
After getting married with Najama (Richa Chadda), sardar ends up falling for a Bengali named Durga (Reemma sen), and later having sons from both wives.
His sons Danish and Faizal, later enter the trade and how sardar khan takes his revenge forms the rest forms the rest of the story.
The movie is all about revenge and the war between Sardar Khan and Ramadhir Singh but offers a lot more than that. The film deals with many other issues too like how sardar khan falls for durga and what happens when his wife najma comes to know about it, how his son enters the trade, Mohsina’s (huma qureshi’s) romance with faizal, how farhan gets in relation with sardar’s wife najma are all very well written and executed.
The major plus point of the film is its dialogue and acting. Dialogues of the film are powerful and witty. “Maarenge nahi usko….keh ke loonga uski” & “permission to leni chahiye thi na aapko” are so well written and executed. Manoj Bajpayee is a pleasure to watch. He acts so well as a vengeful, angry, philandering and ruthless guy in the film. The scenes when he tries to get Durga and the scenes when sardar confronts his wife Najma are the scenes where you’ll love manoj’s acting. Richa Chadda plays the role of sardar’s wife. She does her part really well and delivers one of the best performances in the film. Tigmanshu dhulia as Ramadhir Singh plays his role perfectly. Tigmanshu’s parts where he gets violent with his son’s stupidity are fun to watch. Reemma sen as Durga plays her part well too. Her looks and even the performance in the film are seductress throughout. Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Faizal is the fantastic. He is soft, romantic, anxious, mind-player and does a marvellous act; Piyush Mishra as Farhan performers excellently and all the other performances in this film are a real pleasure to watch.

Sneha Khanwalker’s music is superb. Songs of the film blends with the scenes perfectly. Songs like ‘teri keh ke loonga’, ‘jiye ho bihar ke lala’ and ‘o womaniya’ are well fitted and pictured in the film.
Rajeev Ravi, the cinematographer has captured Bihar so well that the audience will feel that they themselves are in the place during the film. The dirty streets, the butchers’ area and other indoor shots are really well captured and presented in the film.
Wasiq Khan’s production design is brilliant.
I personally feel that the only point when the audience will get bore or will lose interest in the film is in the first thirty minutes. Because that’s the point where they actually have been introduced to many characters one after the other during the story and the audience could not understand the relations & the plot at first. But soon after Manoj Bajpayee enters the scene, the story and the characters turns familiar with the audience and after that there is no point where the film drops its narration. It manages to keep the audience on their places throughout the film.
Gangs of Wsseypur is the film that should not be missed. Anurag Kahsyap did a fabulous job. Audience, I feel, will really dislike when the screen shows, ‘to be continued’ at the end. Well the story is so good that you want to see more and more of it.
Gangs of Wsseypur deserves 5/5.
