BARFI - MOVIE REVIEW
Another Friday, another release but this one’s not what you get to see every day. Barfi is certainly the masterpiece of 2012. Right from the first frame to the end, the film never drops but climbs higher and higher.
Another Friday, another release but this one’s not what you get to see every day. Barfi is certainly the masterpiece of 2012. Right from the first frame to the end, the film never drops but climbs higher and higher.
This is Anurag Basu’s one of the best works after Gangster and Life in a metro. As a director he has made the film so good that we actually start feeling the movie than just watching it. It is more of a painting on celluloid than just a film. The action and chase sequences in the film are really well executed. With a simple story, Anurag does a great job and delivers a most memorable film of the year.
Ravi Varman’s Cinematography in the film is remarkable. As said earlier, it is a painting on celluloid. Every scene looks like a painting or a beautiful photograph. Darjeeling and Kolkata are beautifully captured and presented with a calming colour tone. My best shot of the film is when Jhilmil looks at the bridge through a transparent glass ball. Camera work in the film is certainly worth watching.
Coming to acting, Ranbir Kapoor as Barfi delivers an award winning performance in the film. He is cute, charming, and funny and acts perfectly as a deaf and dumb. Throughout, his expressions in the film are up to the mark. Right form the first frame, we know that Barfi is going to be a charming character and yes Ranbir Kapoor never failed, he did justice to the role that he was assigned perfectly.
Ileana D’Cruz as Shruti is a beauty to watch. She is beautiful throughout. Some of the places where she is extremely good are when she meets Barfi for the first time and when Barfi follows her on a cycle and she is in a toy train, and when Barfi is heartbroken after he sees her with her fiancé, she is splendid, she is natural and gorgeous in each and every frame of which she is part of.
Sumona Chakravarti as Ileana’s mother is silent at places but plays a powerful role. Others too support and act very well.
Music and Background score is given by Pritam and must say, he adds to the beauty of the film. The background score is engaging and relaxing. Music is not the best but it’s just what the movie required. ‘Ala Barfi’ is indeed the best track and is really well pictured. Other songs too come at the right places and add to the drama beautifully.
Barfi is one of the finest films ever made. It surely deserves full marks.
A ‘WELL DONE’ to the team of Barfi.

Priyanka Chopra as Jhilmil Chatterjee will surprise many with her acting skills. The manner, in which she talks, walks, eats and when she is happy or sad, all are very naturally performed. Her scene when her foot gets stuck in a puddle, her acting then is certainly splendid. Her and Barfi’s chemistry is very cute and loving. There are even few scenes of theirs that may make you cry. It is Priyanka Chopra’s one of the best performances I’ve seen so far, certainly another award winning performance from the film.
Saurabh Shukla as the police inspector is again fun and cute to watch. His dialogue delivery, his timing is all perfect. After a very long gap he is on screen with such a brilliant and memorable performance.
